Guide to Railway Stations in Chengdu
It is common to travel by train. Chengdu now enjoys four big railway stations at the four directions, from the completion of Chengdu Railway Station in 1952 to that of Chengdu West Railway Station at the end of 2018.
As the 2019 Spring Festival travel rush begins, this Life Helper will identify respective functions of the four railway stations in Chengdu.
Name: Chengdu Railway Station (also known as Chengdu North Railway Station)
Chengdu Railway Station was opened to the public on July 1, 1952. It has been woven into the memory of Chengdu people after over 6 decades of operation.
Name on the Ticket: Chengdu
Location: Zhandong Road, Chengdu
Scale: It has 6 platforms. In 2016, Chengdu issued a reform plan to scale up Chengdu Railway Station's capacity. Since the first stage was completed, the reforms second phase is expected to commence in March 2019. Chengdu West Railway Station, Chengdu East Railway Station and Chengdu South Railway Station will take on its load during reconstruction.
Main Routes: Normal speed trains on Baoji-Chengdu railway and Chengdu-Kunming railway; normal speed trains on the Chengdu-Chongqing-Neijiang-Kunming railway ; some normal speed and some bullet trains on the Dazhou-Chengdu railway; some normal speed trains on Baoji-Chengdu-Lanzhou-Chongqing railway; some bullet trains on Chengdu–Dujiangyan Intercity Railway (mainly depart from Xipu Station).
Tourist Trains: These trains enjoy connections to several major cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Lanzhou.
Transportation: Chengdu Railway Station can be reached by taking Chengdu Metro Line 1 and Line 7.
Name: Chengdu East Railway Station
Chengdu East Railway Station, put into operation in May 2011, is the largest passenger station of the city.
Name on the Ticket: Chengdu East
Location: Qingyijiang Road, Chengdu
Scale: It has 14 platforms.
Main Routes: This station is designed mainly for (high-speed) bullet trains, including all trains on the Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway, Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway and Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan high-speed railway, some of them on Shanghai-Chengdu high-speed railway, and also some of the bullet and normal speed trains on Dazhou-Chengdu railway and Dazhou-Chengdu-Lanzhou-Chongqing railway.
Tourist Trains: There are high-speed bullet trains on Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway and trains on popular railway lines such as the Chengdu-Chongqing railway and Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan high-speed railway.
Transportation: Chengdu East Railway Station can be reached by taking Chengdu Metro Line 2 and Line 7.
Name: Chengdu South Railway Station
Chengdu South Railway Station was completed and opened to the public in December 2014.
Name on the Ticket: Chengdu South
Location: Tianren Second Street North, Chengdu
Scale: It has 5 platforms.
Main Routes: Except for existing bullet trains running on the Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan high-speed railway, it began to operate some normal speed trains on the Chengdu-Kunming railway after January 5, 2019.
Tourist Trains: Some trains run on the Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan high-speed railway, linking popular tourist destinations like Mianyang, Deyang, Meishan, Leshan and Emeishan to each other.
Transportation: Chengdu South Railway Station can be reached by taking Chengdu Metro Line 1 and Line 7.
Name: Chengdu West Railway Station
Chengdu West Railway Station was put into operation at the end of 2018, aiming to become a transportation hub integrating intercity railways, metros, trams, buses and Park and Ride car parks.
Name on the Ticket: Chengdu West
Location: Jinhui Road, Chengdu
Scale: It has 5 platforms.
Main Routes: It is for bullet trains connecting Chengdu and Ya'an.
Tourist Trains: Chengdu-Ya'an railway has nine railway stations (excluding the starting station and terminus) in Wenjiang, Yangma, Chongzhou, Dayi, Qionglai, Xilai, Pujiang, Chaoyang Lake and Mingshan. People can take trains on this railway line to visit Floraland in Wenjiang, Zhuyi Village (Bamboo Craft Village) in Chongzhou, Pingle Ancient Town in Qionglai, Xiling Snow Mountain in Dayi and Moon Village in Pujiang.
Transportation: Chengdu West Railway Station can be reached by taking Chengdu Metro Line 4 and Line 9. Chengdu Tram R2 will also take passengers to this railway station.
