What is the process of seeing a doctor? How to solve the problem of language barrier? Today, "Chengdu Helper" is here to help you seek medical treatment in Chengdu.


Hospital Selection

There are three main types of public hospitals in Chengdu: general hospital with comprehensive departments, specialized hospital focusing on specific departments, and traditional Chinese medicine hospital with TCM departments. 

Based on the above classification, there are four hospitals that  provide English services.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital·Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM (Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital)

Hospital Classification: Grade Ⅲ Level A TCM hospital

Languages: Chinese and English

Clinic Hours: 

Daylight Saving Time (May 1st - September 30th): Monday: 7:15 am -21:00 pm, From Tuesday to Friday: 7:30 am -21:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 7:30 am -18:00 pm 

Winter time(October 1st - April 30th) From Monday to Friday: 7:30 am -21:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 7:30 am -17:30 pm

Specialized Hospital·West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University

Hospital Classification: Grade Ⅲ Level specialized hospital for women and children

Clinic Hours: 365 days throughout the year, 8:00 am-12:00 am, 14:00 pm-18:00 pm. Night specialist/specialized clinic: 18:00 pm-21:00 pm.

Hospital Classification: Grade Ⅲ Level stomatology hospital

Languages: Chinese and English

Clinic Hours: 8:00 am-12:00 am, 13:00 pm-16:30 pm

In addition to the above four hospitals, there are still a number ofother public hospitals in Chengdu providing English services, such as Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Sichuan Provincial Orthopaedic Hospital, and Sichuan Cancer Hospital. 


Foreigners can download the Guide to Medical Treatment for Foreigners in Chengdu issued by the Chengdu Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning to obtain more information on foreign-related medical services. 


Tips: According to China's hospital classification system, Chinese hospitals are divided into Grade Ⅲ Level A,  Grade Ⅲ Level B,  Grade Ⅱ Level A,  Grade Ⅱ Level B,  and Grade Ⅰ.


Registration & Treatment

After selecting the hospital, then it's time to start the registration procedures. Take West China Hospital of Sichuan University as an example, and the following are the general procedures.


Step 1: Apply for the patient ID card

The patient ID card is used to record the patient's medical records. You can use your valid ID card such as passport to apply for the card at the outpatient comprehensive service window.

Step 2: Registration 

There are two ways of registration in West China Hospital of Sichuan University: online reservation system for all the specialist outpatient clinics, and online reservation system plus on-site registration system for general clinics.

You can also make a reservation on the self-service machine in the outpatient hall with your patient ID card and then register at the registration service counter of the outpatient hall.


Tips: In addition to reservation and payment in the outpatient hall, you can also make reservation and payment through the "West China Hospital of Sichuan University" WeChat public account and Huayitong APP.


Step 3: Treatment

After registration, please go to the corresponding service counter to report and then wait for the doctor to call the number, and go to the clinic with your patient ID card when you hear your registration number get called.


Step 4: Payment

After receiving the doctor's prescription or inspection, go to the payment counter with your patient ID card and clinic guide list to pay the fees.


Step 5: Take medicine or receive examination and treatment

After paying the fees, go to the pharmacy to take the medicine, with your prescription, or go to the corresponding department for examination, treatment or make reservation for examination and treatment with your checklist and treatment list.

If you need to be hospitalized, the doctor will issue an admission card, and then you can take your admission card and register at the hospital's admission service center. When the bed is available, you can be admitted to the hospital.
