Chengdu E-Commerce Transaction Soared YoY by 26.70% in Q1 2019
On May 4, 2019, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce released data, showing that between January and March 2019, Chengdu e-commerce notched a transaction volume of RMB521.513 billion, a surge of 26.70% compared to the same period last year, while online improved by 22.70% to RMB87.379 billion. Of which, internet retail in physical goods reached RMB46.126 billion, and internet retail in services reached RMB41.253 billion.
In the first three months of the year, online retail sales in Chengdu rural villages amounted to RMB12.512 billion, skyrocketing by 35.70% year-on-year and accounting for 14.32% in total internet retail in Chengdu. Of which, cumulative internet sales in physical goods reached RMB7.023 billion, and cumulative internet retail in services that primarily consisted of tourism and dining reached RMB5.489 billion. Chengdu recorded RMB2.94 billion in online sales of agricultural products, with tea beverages, fruits and herbal medicines becoming the most popular product categories.
