2019 China’s Box Office Revenue Hit RMB 64.266B, with Chengdu Ranking Fifth with RMB 1.8B
According to data from the China Film Administration, China's box office in 2019 grossed 64.266 billion yuan with an increase of 5.4% over the same period in 2018, of which China's domestic films accounts for 64.07%. Chengdu box office revenue exceeded 1.8 billion yuan in 2019, ranking fifth in all cities across the country.
The latest data shows that Chengdu currently has 24 cinema brands and 209 theaters. Ne Zha, produced by a Chengdu director and fully participated by a Chengdu production company, achieved a revenue over five billion yuan at the box office in 2019, becoming the second film in China's film history with the box office grossing over five billion yuan, and ranked second in the main list of China’s box office.
At present, Chengdu is actively promoting the construction of the Chengdu TV and Film Silicon Valley. Upon completion, it will produce considerable numbers of films, VR works, TV series, and new media short videos. The annual output value of the digital industry is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan, which will tremendously drive the development of the surrounding cultural innovation industries and derivatives, and help form a hundred-billion-yuan-scale ecosystem for cultural innovation and cultural tourism industries.
