Sichuan Segment of Chengdu-Guiyang Railway Starts Joint Commissioning
On November 28, 2018, the segment between Leshan and Xingwen of the Chengdu-Guiyang Railway (aka Sichuan segment of the Chengdu-Guiyang Railway) completed its physical construction process and has officially commenced joint commissioning. The entirety of the Chengdu-Guiyang Railway, a passenger-only railroad, is roughly 632km in total length and designed for an operating speed of 250km/h. Of which, the stretch between Leshan and Chengdu was already put into service in December 2014. The Chengdu-Guiyang Railway’s section between Leshan and Guiyang departs from Leshan Station, and then moves eastward pass Jianwei County, Yibin City, Changning County and Xingwen County in Sichuan Province, Weixin County and Zhenxiong County in Yunnan Province, and Bijie City, Dafang County and Qianxi County in Guizhou Province before arriving in the city of Guiyang. The Sichuan segment of the Chengdu-Guiyang Railway, the subject of this round of joint commissioning, began construction back in December 2013.
After the Chengdu-Guiyang Railway starts service, traveling between Chengdu and Guiyang by train would only require 3.5 hours. In addition, Chengdu access to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will also reduce by a significant margin because theoretically speaking, Chengdu train passengers could reach Guangzhou in eight hours and Hong Kong in nine hours. This would mark the first high-speed express railway to operate in and out of southern Chengdu and Sichuan.
