World Internet Conference Focuses on Network, Case from Sichuan Province Offers New Insights into Global Poverty Alleviation

On December 3, 2017, the 4th World Internet Conference officially commenced. Participants included officials such as Deputy Director of the Cyberspace Administration of China Ren Xianliang and Director of State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development Liu Yongfu, representatives from international organizations like Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, International Telecommunication Union, International Monetary Fund and World Bank, delegates from governments or agencies of countries like the United States, Nepal and Ethiopia, and more than 20 senior executives from Chinese and foreign corporations such as JD.com, Ant Financial, Samsung and Mengniu Dairy. During the first session of the Conference, 32 years-old Li Jun, the Secretary of the Party Branch of Xiuyun Village in Baiyi Town of Cangxi County in Sichuan Province, explained how Xiuyun Village applied an Internet mindset to resolve homogenization issue in industrial poverty reduction, which served as a new approach for global poverty alleviation efforts.
