1st Panda Cub in France Named Yuan Meng to Denote "Fulfillment of Dreams"

On December 4, 2017, French local time, "mini Yuan Zai" the first-ever panda cub born in France was publicly shown for the first time at the ZooParc de Beauval in the French city of Saint-Aignan and was officially named "Yuan Meng". Meaning "fulfillment of dreams" in Chinese, the name signifies the people's good wishes for the baby panda as well as expectations for the future in Sino-French relations. Giant panda "Yuan Meng" was born on August 4, 2017, in the ZooParc de Beauval and is the first giant panda born in France. Its parents, "Yuan Zai" and "Huan Huan," both arrived at the French zoo from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in January 2012 as a part of a decade-long China-France giant panda breeding cooperation program. Giant panda "Yuan Meng" has garnered the attention of the French public ever since birth and will be seen by visitors to the zoo as of Jan. 13, 2018.
