On December 20, the Development Report on China Rail Transport Industry (2017) was jointly released by organizations including the World Railway Development and Research Society and Social Sciences Academic Press (China). The report assessed 200 major Chinese mainland cities that operate and construct standardized rail transportation or provide rail transportation products and services. Based on comprehensive scores the top 50 cities were selected, in which Chengdu came in at third place just behind Beijing and Shanghai. In the future, Chengdu will focus its endeavor on the target of "operating more than 600 km of subway by 2022 and basically forming a half-hour rail transit commute circle" while fully dedicating its efforts to accelerate the establishment of a metro route grid.
